The Israel Programs Department at JCC Rockland offers a wide variety
of cultural, social, and informational programs about Israel and the
Jewish life cycle. Participate in meaningful discussion groups,
extraordinary Israeli films, professional lectures and
presentations, written articles and more.
As part of an extraordinary global project partnering Jewish communities directly with Israeli communities, JCC Rockland has established a connection with the city of Hod Hasharon in Israel. Located on central Israel’s Sharon Plain, Hod Hasharon is approximately 6 miles northeast of central Tel Aviv, and is home to nearly 50,000 Israelis. The goal of this project is to build living bridges between our Rockland community and Israel, sharing ideas, strengths, challenges and models of success, and developing strong, lasting bonds of friendship between Jews in the United States and Israel.
Community Shaliach/Israel
Emissary
JCC Rockland is proud to sponsor the unique position of the
Community Shaliach – an Israeli educational emissary.
The Young Community Shaliach is a program coordinated and directed
by The Jewish Agency for Israel and Jewish communities all over the
world. In 2009, the Jewish Agency for Israel sent more than 420
shlichim to North America alone. These young shlichim are working
closely with Jewish communities, youth groups, and Hillel student
organizations to bring Israel to American Jews, and strengthen the
Jewish people-hood.
Based at JCC Rockland, the shaliach is a community resource for
Israel education and advocacy, working directly with children,
youth, students and adults in the different synagogues, religious
schools, youth groups and agencies throughout the Jewish community.
The shaliach endeavors to impart Jewish heritage and Zionism,
encourage members of the community to visit Israel, provide the
community with a taste of Israel and foster the development of a
young local leadership, as well as organizing a wide range of
educational activities based on the Jewish calendar cycle and
representing Israel to the general public.
Israel Film Club
Israeli cinema is a gateway to understanding the complexities of
Israeli society as well as enjoying Israeli creativity and the
wonders of international cinema. Each month, we’ll screen a modern
Israeli film that reflects the cultural and social challenges Israel
has faced since its inception to the present, as well as the best of
Israel’s best acting and creativity.
Join us as we screen a variety of recent films from of Israeli
cinema, followed by a discussion led by Daniel Sonnenschein, JCC
Rockland Community Shaliach/Israel Emissary. Films will be screened
in Hebrew with English subtitles.
